After arriving at your residence, the collection is assessed and the contracts are signed. Once signed, the first deposit is made (The Bin Detective) OR the full amount for the sets is paid (The Collection Saver) and the collection is loaded into our vehicle and transported to our facility.
The Bin Detective: Parts are sorted first by color, then each color is sorted by part type (Brick, Plate, and Tile) and put in individual bags.
The Collection Saver: Each set is carefully disassembled, keeping notes of missing parts.
Once sorted, all the parts are washed.
The majority of parts are put into mesh bags and are delicately washed in a washing machine. We use 100% natural, odorless cleaning supplies and cold water, ensuring the pieces are not damaged.
Stickered parts, printed pieces, large plates, and minifigures are washed by hand, ensuring prints and/or stickers are not scratched or large plates damaged.
All yellowed parts are de-yellowed using 395nm UV lights and 3% hydrogen peroxide. The parts are checked frequently to ensure they are returned to the original color without fading. Once de-yellowed, the parts are washed again.
NOTE: Results can and will vary between parts. The worse the yellowing is, the lower the chance it will be returned to its original color. There is a small chance that de-yellowed parts may become brittle over time, or that printing could fade or be removed. J-Rod SAVES Bricks is not responsible for any damaged or faded parts as a result of this process. If you are concerned with the de-yellowing process, please let us know!
Once the parts are dry and sorted into bags and/or their respective sets, all missing/broken parts are noted. These parts are input into BrickLink to find the best deal for new-condition parts. Stickers can also be replaced upon request. Once you approve the parts and deposit the amount, the parts are ordered.
We're almost done! With all parts accounted for, all sets are rebuilt and gingerly packaged for transport. We drive VERY SLOWLY and VERY CAREFULLY back to your residence to deliver the collection! Now you can enjoy your LEGO® Collection looking good as new!
If you've been spared the gut punch that is Brittle Brown, allow me to inform you. LEGO® pieces produced in Reddish-Brown, Dark Brown, Dark Green, and Pearl Gold roughly between the years of 2007-2018 have a tendency to be brittle. This was caused by pigments that were added to the ABS plastic negatively changing the chemical structure, causing the parts to break easily. The LEGO® Community has dubbed these parts as "Brittle Brown," even when referring to the other affected colors. When disassembling your collection, there is a chance that "Brittle Brown" parts will break. If this happens, we will try our best to get as many of them for free from The LEGO® Group's broken parts service, but any that are unavailable will be added to the Replacement Cost. If there is a set in your collection that has a large amount of these parts (such as #71042 Silent Mary) we recommend telling us to NOT disassemble this set. We will still try our best to clean and restore it.
J-Rod SAVES Bricks is not responsible for any parts being broken as a result of any step of the restoration project, regardless of its color.
LEGO® Minifigures have become the highest valued component of retired LEGO® sets in recent years, with some minifigures selling for more than the complete used set. We will remove any damaged, broken, or cracked minifigures during the initial sorting process. Once we've started finding replacement parts, we will try to find the most cost-effective way to replace the minifigure. For example, if a torso has a cracked arm, we will find a replacement for just the arm, instead of the full torso. When reviewing the BrickLink order, if there are any minifigures or parts you do not wish to replace, please let us know so we can take it off the order!
